Preservice Primary School Teachers’ Elementary Geometry Knowledge
نویسنده
چکیده
Geometrical notions and properties occur in real-world problems, thus Geometry has an important place in school Mathematics curricula. Primary school curricula lays the foundation of Geometry knowledge, pupils learn Geometry notions and properties by exploring their environment. Thus it is very important that primary school teachers have a good base in elementary Geometry. The aim of this paper is to present a research on how pre-service primary school teachers master elementary Geometry notions and properties related with some basic shapes and solids. The research shows that there are students, who can’t recognize basic geometrical shapes or solids. Two third of the students can’t define correctly basic geometrical shapes: they don’t know the correct properties of the shapes; they know the properties of the shapes, but they repeat some properties in the definition or they miss some properties from the definition. As regarding geometrical solids, more than one third of the students couldn’t draw the correct two-dimensional representation and one third didn’t know how to draw the net of them.

Are we exacerbating students' learning disabilities? an investigation of preservice teachers' attributions of the educational outcomes of students with learning disabilities.
While claims of the importance of attribution theory and teachers' expectations of students for student performance are repeatedly made, there is little comprehensive research identifying the perceptions preservice teachers have of students with learning disabilities (LD). Accordingly, 444 Australian preservice primary school teachers were surveyed using vignettes and Likert-scale questions, to...

Thirty preservice teachers enrolled in a field-based science methods course were placed at a public elementary school for coursework and for teaching practice with elementary students. Candidates focused on building conceptual understanding of science content and pedagogical methods through innovative curriculum development and other course assignments during the first ten weeks. Teaching pract...
متن کاملPreservice Elementary Teachers ’ Views of Their Students ’ Prior Knowledge of Science
Pre-service teachers face many challenges as they learn to teach in ways that are different from their own educational experiences. Pre-service teachers often enter teacher education courses with pre-conceptions about teaching and learning that may or may not be consistent with contemporary learning theory. To build on preservice teachers’ prior knowledge, we need to identify the types of views...
متن کاملCurriculum Design for Inquiry: Preservice Elementary Teachers’ Mobilization and Adaptation of Science Curriculum Materials
Curriculum materials are crucial tools with which teachers engage students in science as inquiry. In order to use curriculum materials effectively, however, teachers must develop a robust capacity for pedagogical design, or the ability to mobilize a variety of personal and curricular resources to promote student learning. The purpose of this study was to develop a better understanding of the wa...

A range of factors has impinged on the provision of teacher education programs in the last decade. Largely emanating from governmental demands for increased accountability, these have included the setting of standards for student achievement, proof of program impact, and state and national testing. These legislative reforms and school district concerns initiated changes in field experience at a...
